New Alliance Partnership with Stop Homework The growing emphasis on homework for young children interferes with time for play and relaxed family activities, yet research shows that homework has little or no benefit in the elementary school years. In conjunction with its campaign to restore play to childhood, the Alliance is now working with New York attorney Sara Bennett, the co-author (with Nancy Kalish) of The Case Against Homework: How Homework Is Hurting Our Children and What We Can Do About It and the founder of the organization Stop Homework.
Play in the Early Years: Key to School Success: The Alliance for Childhood is distributing for free a new 8-page policy brief on children's play, produced in collaboration with the Bay Area Early Childhood Funders. The brief explains how high-quality preschools provide lasting benefits and how children learn specific skills related to academic and social success through play. It also makes five specific policy recommendations to support play-centered early childhood programs. Click here to download a free copy of "Play in the Early Years."
